The Philippine Islands |
This is know as a Bangka or pumpboat. These are normally very similiar designs throughout the Philippines. They would have a diesel engine and are used for " island-hopping " tourists from place to place. These are also for dive and snorkeling trips. The boat is a deep 'V' shape and from my experience can travel ok in calm weather but in windy conditions if the waves are more than about 5 feet they would possibly cancel the trip due to safety conditions. Even though they have outriggers.. I have been on them in rough water and they can tip over. i came close one time traveling from Cebu to Olango island. They are a little dangerous at times cause they are many times overloaded with people and cargo. |
