ILOILO

One thing you notice about Iloilo when you are going around is they definitely are one of the major suppliers of rice to the Philippines.  By November it was time to harvest the rice and everywhere you went rice was on the streets and fields drying.  Even when I was on Olango island I saw they were bringing in large sacks of rice from Iloilo.   The people here are also friendly and I was able to visit my friends house and they took me around to the different restaurants and karaoke clubs in the evening.  We also visited the zoo and had lunch there.  As with most restaurants the cost for lunch and dinner is reasonable anywhere from 250-500 pesos ($5-$10 u.s) for two persons,  we all had a good time while I was there. The Domestic airport is small.  When you are waiting for your luggage you can give the porter your luggage ticket stub and he will go and dig it out of the pile they put the luggage in.  I think I gave him 50 pesos ($1) for the two luggage I had and he took it to the van. I did stay at the Days Inn hotel, who when I asked them, gave me a discount on my room.  I think I paid about 1250 pesos ($25) per night.  The hotel is located on the top floors of a mall in the city part of Iloilo and is only a short ride from the airport.  They had a Days Inn van to pick me up for free at the airport and take me back there as well when I left.
