Dalit Lumbayao
Mountain Elementary School

My wife is a special education teacher as of now but, before she was stationed in the mountains of Bukidnon near the city of Valencia.  We travel 2 hours by bus, jeepneye or motorcycle to get to the village of lumbayao which is along the Palange river.  We must cross the river in a small wooden boat, then walk up and over the mountain for 1 1/2 hours with a water buffalo (caribao) to carry our items to the mountain village of Dalit.  This is where my wife used to teach before and we have decided to support this schools needs as best we can.   We have brought pencils, papers, books, crayons, clothes and even toys for the many kids that attend this mountain school.  Most kids live in village of Dalit but others walk from 2 - 8 kilometers each way just to attend elementary school here.   There are only 3 classrooms.. one for kindergarten... one for grades 1-3 and another for grades 4-6.  There are 3 teachers and one principal.   There is no running water or electricity in these mountains.  People are hardworking and the children want an education.  I pray that we can continue to help these teachers and children with many items from the U.S.A.  The principal is a good friend of ours and we keep in touch via post mail.  4-7 weeks from the u.s.a.
