The Transfer House - Central Park
N 39 50.554   W 088 57.204

The Transfer House stands as a symbol of times gone by for Decatur.

It was originally built in 1895 on Lincoln Square. This was originally the center of Decatur. It served as a shelter for people waiting to ride street cars and later buses. Over time, the city began to grow and the Transfer House was standing in the way of progress. In 1962 the Decatur City Council decided to move the Transfer House to Central Park due to traffic flow problems. This marked the end of an era in the History of Decatur.
